  • Doctor of Philosophy, English, Baylor University, 2000
  • Master of Arts, English / Creative Writing, Hardin-Simmons University, 1991
  • Bachelor of Arts, English / Communication, Hardin-Simmons University, 1987

Dr. Laura Pogue holds the W.D. & Hollis R. Bond Endowed Chair of English and teaches American Literature with special focus in Early American Literature as well as in American women writers at the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries, creative writing, slavery narrative, and poetry.

Dr. Pogue also serves as academic advisor to all students seeking 7-12 teacher certification in English.

Obsessed with words, language, and stories, Dr. Pogue finds a deep connection between her academic pursuits and her spiritual journey. The freedom to express that connection in the classroom is one of the richest benefits of her job at HSU. The Bible, she notes, is replete with narratives, poetry, parables, and songs; language itself is a creation of God, that part of Himself that is reaching out to us, communicating to us who He is.
